Wildfires and Beautiful Babies

fire on stewart mountain

I suppose the big “news” of our weekend is a wildfire in the mountain across the road from us. Fireworks and carelessness caused several fires in our area this weekend. Combine that with our hot, dry weather and its a recipe for disaster. Stewart Mountain (the one mentioned in the news article) is what I see out my front window. I’m looking at it right now, as a matter of fact. Yesterday we packed up our photos and irreplaceable documents in case we need to leave. This morning our house smells like wood smoke and there is a thick haze of smoke everywhere. Air quality is considered “unhealthy” and we are supposed to stay inside with windows closed. Given the fact that it was in the high 80’s yesterday and expected to be today as well, it is likely to be a long day. Yesterday we were serenaded by the sounds of three helicopters getting water from a  nearby lake and pouring it on the fire. On top of our own fires, we also have smoking drifting in from wildfires in Canada.

We celebrated the fourth with some good friend of ours. I wasn’t planning on taking any pictures…but Hannah was looking so adorable and was so happy with her mama…I ran inside to grab my camera and take a few shots. I am so glad I did! Be sure and check out Hannah’s newborn photos as well.

I hope you had a great holiday weekend! Be sure and enter to win a seat cover here (just leave a comment) I will be selecting a winner tonight.

Oh my, I am so sorry to hear about the fires around the area. I will definitely keep your family in my prayers and hope that they don’t drive each other bonkers with not being able to go outside. Going to definitely be a time for lots of games and lots of LEGO..lol!! Thank you also for writing about your son Mordieci (not sure if I spelled that correctly). My son is on the Autism spectrum and has quite a few other things wrong. One that is very hard is his Auditory processing disorder and language disorder. It is very hard for him to understand what he reads and then also what he hears. We have to be very careful about what we say and how we say things. He will take them EXACTLY the way we say and do (even down to the facial expressions and also body language). It is a constant struggle but is slowly getting better with Speech Therapy and also the fact that I am now homeschooling him(He was being severely bullied at school). I would love to know more about how your son is doing and how you have helped him with certain things like his reading and such.

    Thank you for your blog,
    Michelle

P.S. I would love to be entered for the chance to win the seat cover. 🙂

Yah, we were down at the lake cooling off, watching the helicopters dip their buckets just a hundred yards or so from my folks’ beach – rather a noisy afternoon!

What’s the status this morning? I can’t hear the helicopters from my neighborhood – still going?

We were at the Colorado River in Laughlin NV for my birthday the weekend of the 26th of June and there was haze in the valley from the Lake Fire in the San Bernardino Mountains. As we were driving home on I40 we could see smoke haze laying in the valleys. I have a hard time with smoke due to my asthma, and when we have big big fires, it’s just awful, even here at the coast.
I hope they can get the fire under control and no homes or buildings are lost to it.
Stay safe or find somewhere cool and air conditioned.
