National Adoption Day!

National Adoption Day 3

November 21, 2015 is National Adoption Day! I love that we have a day set aside to celebrate this way of making families. Thirteen years ago we changed the dynamic of our family by adopting a chunky four-week old baby boy. Mordecai was born with Amniotic Band Syndrome and we knew was at risk for Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. I fell wildly and deeply in love with him within 24 hours of meeting him. He was mine. Plain and simple.

We had only one goal in our adoption: to provide a home for a child who didn’t have one. We told the agency we worked with we would take a child up to age seven. We never dreamed we would get a newborn. We were even more shocked when less than three years later  3 day old Avi was placed with us.

Have you seen this adorable HoneyMaid video?

National Adoption Day

Did you know:

Nearly 40% of children don’t live with both of their biological parents. Only 62% of children live with their two biological parents?

More than 1.5 million American families have been touched by adoption?

Like the American family, Honey Maid has continued to evolve across its 90 year heritage. From classic grahams to Teddy Grahams, Honey Maid’s wholesome products are made with whole grains and real honey, without high fructose corn syrup or artificial colors, and are wholesome snacks families can agree on for any occasion.

Teddy Grahams are one of the foods on Apollo’s “preferred food” list, so snacking on them is usually a bit hit!

Adoption has changed our family forever. Mordecai joined our family in 2002, Avi in 2005 and in 2007 Keziah, Ezra and Boaz joined us from Liberia, West Africa. Adoption has brought us joy, sadness, laughter and so much more. None of our adoptions have been easy…but then neither have my pregnancies. Life is complicated, messy and sometimes downright hard.

Despite the challenges lets all take a moment on November 21 to celebrate National Adoption Day!

Our family has been blessed by adoption 3 times already and on November 20th…the fourth adoption will be finalized!! My husband and I have been foster parents for 13 years and we have parented 21 children. There has been joy, sadness, peace, pain, laughter and tears. But it has ALWAYS been worth it!! I am often told what a blessing we are to these children. But the truth is that each child that has come into our home, no matter how short or long their stay, has been a HUGE blessing in our life!! I wouldn’t trade one moment of the last 13 years!!

Our first adoption took place on this special day 12 years ago. I remember it well. It was rainy and cold, we had 3 kids 3 years old and younger, all waiting for their day in court. The process was an emotional rollercoaster, but I wouldn’t change it for anything. And we love HoneyMaid products.
