Iris had a prenatal visit the other day (she is now officially three days past her due date) and I was happy to be able to photograph it. When she had Percy she hired a birth photographer but this time she’s going with the cheap and free option…MOM.

As it turns out, Percy was quite excited by the midwife’s visit. I shouldn’t have been surprised to discover that he knows the routine. He immediately (and with permission) grabbed the stethoscope to help.

As soon as Iris climbed up on the be for the exam, Percy climbed up too. This is one aspect of midwifery care that I love (both here in New Zealand and in the US). Midwives who come out to your home for prenatal visits. This always helped my children feel very much a part of the pregnancy.

I was so impressed that when the midwife pulled out the doppler, Percy grabbed the jelly. He knew it needed to be applied before listening to the baby.

When it was time for the midwife to leave, Percy was insistent on carrying her (very heavy) bag outside for her. Clearly, he is a perfect gentleman.
