I have spent the majority of my time here in New Zealand in Iris’s house. This is fine and dandy with me since I came to help in any way I can with her baby and her recovery. Last night, however, we headed to Wellington to check out the Wellington Night Markets.Â
Wellington is about an hour from where Ben and Iris live so we packed up Percy for his first big outing. The only pictures I have of Percy on this trip were taken in the car because after that he was under Iris’s nursing cover to spare him from the CRAZY wind in Wellington.
There were two night markets that we found. One was vegan.
No thank you. I love my vegan friends, but I also love to eat meat.
The Wellington Night Markets are on Cuba street…hence the cute red sign.
Jubilee and I got a chuckle out of these cross walk symbols. I tried my best, but I’m still not sure I crossed the street with the same  swagger…
I’m a sucker for rainbows (you know, to match my bright, bubbly personality) so I was captivated by this beautiful rainbow building.
Sweet little family…with a baby hidden somewhere…
Ben had the great idea for us each to pick food from a vendor and to share it. We did this with one vendor and food at a time, so we ended up with five courses.
It. Was. Amazing.
First up was this amazing tandoori chicken that BEN! chose.
Oh. My.
Spoiler alert, this was my favorite dish of the evening.
This tandoori will be coming back to me in dreams. Taunting me with wafting, spicy odors that shall never again pleasure my olfactory.
Good-bye Sweet Tandoori Purchased from a Food Truck In New Zealand…I shall always remember you.
And speaking of food trucks…last December we started watching The Great Food Truck Race as a family. We all loved it and the kids were obsessed. Eat From a Food Truck was added to everyone’s Life Long Dreams list.
And yet. We still haven’t made it to one.
So this evening in Wellington was the Pinnacle of Food Truck Goodness for me and Jubilee.
Jubilee chose dumplings from the House of Dumplings.
These dumplings were Iris and Jubilee’s favorite dish of the night.
Drinks were Iris’s choice…but there weren’t many to choose from and she was busy resting after walking with the baby. Ben decided to try to find drinks none of us had ever tried. He was partially successful…Jubilee and I had never tried them.
Ben also chose this massive bratwurst sausage with sauerkraut and onion with sweet chili sauce and American mustard.
Everyone enjoyed it.
Notice, BEN! isn’t wearing shoes…
Jason chose wraps. He got falafel, lamb, and chicken.
This was Ben and Jason’s favorite dish.
I chose this for dessert…can you guess what it is? I’ll give you a hint, it’s Thai.
As you can see, Jubilee enjoyed it.
Have you guessed what it is?
Fried bananas drizzled with chocolate!
So good.
It was about this time that Jubilee pointed out something interesting about the Wellington Night Markets sign.
I hope her English teacher reads this post…
Yes, our night at the Wellington Night Markets was amazing!!!
It was definitely night to remember.
Firday :).
We were wondering if it was some NZ holiday…
Lovely. I’m reminded of our Christmas markets here–but looks like you had even better food!
Yes, the food was amazing!!!
