Yesterday was our cookie decorating day. This has been tradition for our family since we moved here in 1999. At the time we were away from family, only married four years, and still deciding what we wanted the holidays and traditions to look like for our (then) tiny family. We knew we didn’t want it to be focused on gift giving…but what did we want? Making and decorating sugar cookies became a highlight of our Christmas celebrations.
Some years we have friends over and make a big party of it. Some years it is just us. Let me say that this year I am so glad that my children are old enough to do this more or less on their own. Don’t get me wrong. It’s not that I don’t want to be present. It’s just that I don’t want to have to set up, help, supervise and instruct every step of the way. This is much more fun! And, as a bonus, the cookies are edible.
Tomorrow is our candlelight Christmas Eve service at church…such a fun few days leading up to Christmas.
