Things have been a little stressful in our house lately. I’ve needed a break and what better way to get one than to spend a fun evening having a Guardians of the Galaxy party? As my older children have grown into teens and young adults, I’ve so much fun connecting with them over books and movies. We’ve had many *ahem* healthy discussions over these topics. This movie is PG13 so we chose to escape to my parents house and make it a teen-only movie night.Guardians of the Galaxy Party

We have thrown many, many themed parties over the years and we’ve found a simple recipe that works every time. Movie, theme, snacks, decorations, and a healthy dose of imagination.

First we picked out a fun movie. In this case, Guardians of the Galaxy (which just came out on Bluray/DVD December 9th). We picked up our copy in the video and electronics section of Walmart. The combo pack includes exclusive Character O-sleeve and exclusive music zinepack and a 64 page magazine with cast and crew interviews, exclusive behind-the-scenes photos and trivia PLUS a custom “cassette” laptop decal.

Next we headed the toy section where we picked out some Guardians of the Galaxy action figures (Ronan and Star-Lord). You will automatically receive a $5 gift card from Walmart when you purchase Groot, Drax or Rocket Raccoon Disney Infinity 2.0 figures. Who wouldn’t love a deal like that?

We also bought the Nowhere Escape Mission LEGO set. It made an adorable centerpiece for our table and has the added bonus that my kids will be playing with it for the next decade (or more)!Guardians of the Galaxy Party

How seriously adorable is this Groot LEGO guy???

Tilly made Groot cookies and stars and clouds. A black table-cloth, a bit of space themed confetti and the table looked great!

Guardians of the Galaxy Party

Rocket Raccoon quite naturally guarded the Groot cookies.

Judah and Tilly both invited friends from the community college. And Devon came, of course. Have we ever had a party without Devon? Our Guardians of the Galaxy party was simple, fun and easy to plan.

Have you seen the Guardians of the Galaxy movie? Do you ever plan special events like this just for your older kids? I’d love to hear about it!

    I am Groot! 🙂

Seriously though, no we have not had parties like this for our kids, although I’m starting to think about it now cuz’ my kids are getting older and this would be fun!

I liked this movie except for one thing… all the swearing!

Yes, I’ll admit I was a bit taken aback by the language..but it was just my teens. This party was seriously EASY. It is all about keeping the decorations/foods simple, but sticking with a theme (black, turquoise, yellow). I am sure your kids would love to do this!
